Horizon caper was on the radio today

biggest Mis carriage of justice in the uks history

Hundreds lost there lively hood
Some banged up
And a paltry compensation pay out for some

all convicted of wrong doing on known porkie pies

and no one held to account

they should round up all the pencil pushers / paper shufflers
Directors ect who had any thing to do with the convictions
And bang em all up and bankrupt the lot of em

Sieze all there property assets savings and split it amongst those who they helped / assisted to convict of this nonsense

I remember when the story of the thefts and convictions first hit the headlines and thinking it was so odd that there were so many cases of thievery. Why did no one in authority also realise the numbers of convictions were unusual?

Of all the recent mass public incidents that have or are playing out in courts or enquiries etc, IMO this is the one event that needs someone to answer for their incompetence. The fact that people's concerns were just dismissed and they were imprisoned because "the computer said no" is appalling. No one thought or bothered to think "hang on a minute, there is something not quite right here". SMH

A bundle of docs were released to
A barrister representing the sub post masters

known as the Clark document

named after a lawyer looking into the caper on behalf of the post office

he told the post office that an expert witness representing the post office in prosecutions of the sub post masters from the manufactures of the horizon computer programme was far from an expert and could not be relied upon

basically he was a liar

they buried that info / ignored it and carried on having people jailed

It would also appear that the union who were supposed to be looking after the interest of there members I.e sub post masters

were basically in the pocket of the post office ??? And basically did
F all

zero interest in the caper

do you have a link please ??
there is quite a difference between seeming to " doing nothing " and being hampered by deliberately held back and manipulated facts hindering you efforts that make them seem to be taking little or no action??

The ones at the very top new about it and allowed it to continue there is evidence of this seen it on some programme last year. They should be given jail time no simple reprimand or other cop out ten years would not be excessive

It's very difficult to see who is responsible for this, if they were tried before a jury with each case on its merits. What is important is they are all properly compensated and anyone trying to cover anything up also prosecuted. You can't really blame a prosecutor for dropping an unreliable expert witness. Fujitsu in the UK was mainly made up of ex-ICL employees, I suspect you'd find it very difficult to find an IT expert in the whole company.

It's not that difficult.
Marina Hyde usually has a biting wit to cut through the days story but her sense of humour is nowhere to be seen in this article:

It's the worst miscarriage of justice in modern times and nobody has been brought to justice for the trauma these people underwent in order to protect the RM from prosecution. The CEO has actually recieved a peerage, promotion and has only offered a mealy-mouthed non-apology that does nothing to accept the failings of her company.

Absolutely certain that a good few knew, but kept quiet/covered up.

Of course they were, it was impossible to miss the sheer number who were being prosecuted, without wondering why their were so many - Besides, there were lots of sub-posties complaining that the system wasn't working properly, before it got to the prosecution stage. They just ignored the complaints and told them to make up the error from their own pockets, they kept it quiet that others also were complaining about system inaccuracies. The mantra was, the Post Office simply could never be wrong and it persists.

I suppose it was a French union, then?

Stating the obvious, but can you imagine what it must have been like for these people. Noticing electronic financial discrepancies (that you KNOW are nothing to do with you) only to be accused and then convicted. And for it not to be resolved year in year out, hanging over you. Some have gone to their graves without their names being cleared.

As usual in corporate cases like this, no individuals will be found to be responsible. There'll be a 2 million page report including recommendations and lessons learned. The families will receive financial settlements and the world will keep on turning. The incompetent senior managers, CEOs etc (whether still in these organisations, retired or moved elsewhere) will continue to get the big bucks for the 'value they add.'

Meanwhile, lawyers will have made a very pretty penny out of the whole debacle (see other thread re Prince Andrew.)

The 500 odd sub post masters who took the post office to court

and got some thing like 53 million pay out

hmmm sounds a lot untill it transpires that they each got 21 grand a pop

and the rest was to pay all the scheister lawyers

so the sub post masters got a quarter of the full amount

total disgrace

estimates suggest that if all of the sub post masters were fully compensated for there full losses

all 700 plus of them the compensation. Would be close on a billion pounds

It’s easy to forget the hours of work necessary to mount a legal challenge like this. It’s the tax payer who forks the bill either way.

hopefully these lawyers will also consider compensation claims against the expert witnesses (hopefully their employer, who will have deeper pockets).
