I have just read a book called "The Trouble with Islam Today: A Wake-up Call for Honesty and Change" by Irshad Manji. It is interesting, you should read it, look I've even provided a link:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/184018924X/026-5960074-1813238?v=glance&n=266239
The main point is that Islam has a worrying undercurrent which has led to the extremism we see today, and this undercurrent is unfortunately a majority; the true Islam is in fact a minority religion. Islam has been hijacked by what she calls "Desert Islam".
There are also chapters on Israel, women, interpretations, black dogs, raisins, the language of God, Imams.
Read it!
