Do you mean a point of use thermostatic mixer valve. If so, I fitted a 22mm one fed from my combi and cold supply to fill a 1100L tank at 84F for a water treadmill at my vet practice.
It was easy to fit and works fine. Setting up only took a few minutes with a thermometer and the little spanner that came with the kit.
My doctor friend has them at each sink in his surgery in case a patient runs a hot tap if the doctor was out of the room and scolds themselves
Is there an issue that you are aware of in Scotland?
i have fitted them in care homes England. Tend to be inacurate fluctuate and too cool forwashing up. i had to feed them an non trv'd supply to the kitchen sink.
i don't think they are a positive step.
You might aswell ban tea and cofee so people do'tscald themselves. What's the difference?
If people can't run a little cold into the basin by their own judgement then go ahead and fit one but don't ruin every one elses hot water supply in the process.
Some New build housing are now fitting them in the baths as standard but customers are finding 45 Deg not enough for a hot bath. As the valves are adding too much cold to the hot from the combi!
They are getting more and more common for lots of uses where they were always used in specialized situations like care homes hospitals hotels ect. I speak to customers that have solar panels or solid fuel boilers, and have to use them, the valves that are specific ie for baths I agree the water can be too cool especially as women are thicker skinned
Sorry its true women shower at higher temps and they also bath at higher temps.
They are not so accurate as the stored water temps are either too high or too low.
similar to thermostatic shower valves they all have to be calibrated to the stored water temp, when you have a combi boiler I think they flutuate too much and get confused.
I would be interested if someone has used one that really works on a combi boiler.
