I went for an interview yesterday for a position as a maintenence electrician. The hours were 06:00 - 16:00, 5 days a week, 1 hour lunch.. so 45 hours..
they asked me what kind of salary I was after and I told them £400/week.
the employment coach that sent me called this morning to see how I got on and I told them I tought it was ok..
she called back about an hour later after contacting the company for an update and told me that they thought I asked for too much money.. the last guy they had on as a maintenence sparky was on £250/week...
they said they thought that was a fair rate as they would be paying for my training as well.. even though I am 33 and a fully qualified sparky, not needing any training.....
so that's about £5.56.hour for a fully qualified sparky..?
I think they're deluding themselves to think that someone will work for that..
isn't the NMW £5.80 now anyway?
