Hi,
Im looking to add a funky floating style shelf in bathroom.
Doors are pine as is architrave... so am wondering where I can find single piece wood to my size? Ideally about 75mm thick....
Have thought about tables or doors......

Can I pick your brains?

If you are anywhere near Heaver then scott timber will plane up a n oak board for you.

But be aware that a slab of solid wood will almost certainly move when briught into a centrally heated room and a damp moist bathroom will be even worst.

The alternatives are to glue up several strips say 75x75 or to use a veneered board with a hollow core and geded in matching veneer something like this

If in north kent then South Londo Hardwoods will do it for you, they also do thinner (40mm) shelves

Jason is right, of course, that you'd be disappointed with the results once a solid piece of timber started to move with heat a humidity. And, even if you could find your timber in that width, it would be rather costly.

I'd consider making the shelf as a torsion box.

Torsion box is defined here and you'll find lots of references to them if you do an internet search.

Actually, I think that was what Jason was referring to in his hollow core suggestion, geded (edged?) in matching veneer. You could also edge it with a solid lip; I think I would.
