My kitchen juts out in to the garden patio which is half concrete and half paved. The concrete is now cracking and weeds growing through so my plan is to re-pave the whole lot.

The house was built in 1892 and so does not DPC (or one that is obvious) and the kitchen walls (2 are outside walls) suffer from damp.

What should I do about drainage when laying new slabs - go up the wall or leave a gap and fill with something?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Personally I'd dig a trench about 1 foot wide and back fill with gravel or slate chippings - this will allow some drainage and prevent rain splashing up the wall.
An injected damp course could help your dampness issue.

Thanks John - any recommendations for the injected dpc? Just looked at DryZone - any good?
