i have a apollo boiler, the model i am not sure of i can't find any model number on the unit itself and i have no manual.

i noticed earlier today it was pretty cold, checked the boiler and the pilot had gone off. Took a few attempts but got it going again. A hour later it had gone out again, this time i just couldn't get the thing to stay lit.

any idea's?

I have tried getting hold of an engineer but i am getting the same answer,
"too busy" or " i don't travel that far". I obviously don't wanna spend crimbo without heating or hot water. Is there a site that lists qualified engineers? :?:

iknownothing,

It is most likely the thermocouple that has failed. If you still cannot get anybody out to fix the boiler, then you may be able fit a replacement universal thermocouple yourself - making sure that the thermocouple's tip is completely enveloped by the pilot flame. They are available from Plumber's Merchants, B&Q and other DIY chains, for just a few pounds.

However, if the whole pilot light assembly needs replacing, then it is a job that must be done by somebody who is competent to work with gas (e.g. CORGI registered), as it involves disconnecting and reconnecting a gas line.

You can request a User Guide and Intallation/Service Manual for your boiler directly from Potterton (Tel: 08706 060780). They will send you photocopies free of charge, but will need to know the boiler's model number. It is printed on the appliance's data badge (a label stuck on the inside of one of the boiler's panels).
