Would a sticking motorised valve be sufficient to trip the boiler rcd? Is there a way of resetting the boiler.
The background is that I replaced the head on Honeywell v4043h motorised valve controlling the central heating with a second hand one because the previous head was making a dreadful racket and appeared to pack up.
I tried to follow all the existing connections but was suspicious of one which appeared to be brown wire controlling response from thermostat to diverter valve to earth, that is, isolated. The yellow wire which it logically should have been connected to was next door so it could have been a late night mistake.
The suspect set up did not respond to the room stat but I managed to have some heat using the water connection and having the heating diverter valve manually open.
When I connected the brown wire correctly the boiler rcd tripped and other than one mysterious re- appearance remains tripped out. Even with the brown wire isolated it remains tripped. It is a Thorn M boiler and may not have safety cut-outs which can be reset. On the basis that the brown wire is isolated it should work. The pump was working fine.
