2) Yes. You can get crimps with heat-shrink sleeving attached which is better.

3) you will have to attach the mixed colours warning label.

don't forget to do a small pull test once you crimped just to check the mechanical integrity of the join too

I dont see any point in sleeving them - they are already insulated, and are fine as they are.

I think there is a regulation about having unsheathed cables outside of conduit or enclosures, so pehaps heatshrink is a good idea.

Another option is self-amalgamating tape (if thats how you spell it)

I took the OP to mean the cables are into the CU but will not reach the apropriate terminals.

This is quite common when replacing wylex fuse boxes with S/L CUs
