Hey there

So our extension has finally got to the point where we're opening it up to the rest of the house.
As part of this, we've removed a set of double uPVC patio doors that were installed pretty poorly, and have been left with an opening that's splayed on the inside from the old window opening that we now need to square up and make good.

The other challenge is that this area has been notoriously problematic with damp due to being a solid brick wall, to the point where although I'd only replaced the plasterboard a few years ago, it was crumbling off when I pulled it off...

My current thought process is to build a frame using treated 2x4 CLS, and then clad it with foil-backed plasterboard to try and prevent the moisture from penetrating again.
Question - Is there any merit in insulating behind here? It's all going to be inside the building now.

I also need to dig out the old wall under the door and make good there.

Current plan is to put down a DPM and then concrete it.

Anything I'm missing or any better way of handling it?

Thanks
Gavin

Install dry rods for damp maybe? Watch skillbuilder on YouTube do that.

Any external walls need insulation?

Interesting, had never heard of them... Will take a look, as have a couple other walls that seem to be affected by rising damp when the old chemical damp coarse is no longer working..

This was an external wall, but it's now internal as there's a new extension beyond it

Don't need to insulate internal walls. Stick with limelite and the correct paint after sorting the damp.
