Hi Guys,
I'm installing a woodburning stove onto a slate tiled floor.
It'll be sat in the corner of the room. I need to have some insulated material backing for the right angle of the wall it sits within.
I do have some large sheets of marble I could use - but they're an opal greensish, not a good colour, and rather wasteful if a better solution could be found.
I was wondering if it would be possible to use some 1x2M sheets of 30mm marine ply, fix these to the wall, then tile slate (using dot and dab as opposed to whole tile coverage to reduce conduction) on top of the ply to use this as protection against the heat to the plasterboard?
This would be my preferred option as I have lots of slate left over from the job, it'll look much better than massive swathes of green marble or vermiculite fire board - BUT, I didn't know if it'd protect well enough or if the adhesive would grip under such conditions and the tiles would just fall off.
Any opinions from tilers would be appreciated.
