I'm replacing my gas fire surround and hearth. It's a gas fire which is built into the chimney breast, and has a granite (or fake granite) slab behind the fire on the wall, with the surround around that.
I'm going to use some slate tiles I have to build a new hearth, but the tiles are too thin compared to the existing hearth so they'll need to be put on something to raise them up.
Any suggestions on what material I should be mounting them on?
Also, I was thinking of framing the front edge and sides of the tiles with a wood, but is this against regs?
Thanks for any advice, sorry if this is the wrong forum
