Hi I'm a newk and have been reading a lot of the posts re tiling on wooden floors and good they were too. I want to do my upstairs bathroom floor but I do have a couple of questions for the experts though - if there are threads that I have missed that have already covered some of these then sorry in advance:

1) Is there any preference to the thickness of tile ie is thicker necessarily better and stronger and is there a minimum thickness I should be aiming for?

2) Is there preference to size ie would small ones be better than large ones?

3) Finally, to add that little bit of luxury I really would like to put a heating mat on top of the WPB prior to tiling, has anyone done this, was it successful and any advice?

I wait with baited breath!

If you want a tough tile, go for porcelain. Obviously, the thicker the better but don't read too much into the thickness of a tile.

Entirely up to you - so long as your floor is suitably prepared (see sticky thread) then it doesn't really matter. Small tiles are easier to lay on uneven surfaces though.

3) Finally, to add that little bit of luxury I really would like to put a heating mat on top of the WPB prior to tiling, has anyone done this, was it successful and any advice?
I'm not a fan of under floor heating so am not really the person to advise you on that question - personally I don't think it's worth the effort or expense. Only my opinion though.
