Hello,

Me being far to eager to impress an attractive young lady :D Ihave offered to re-tile her swimmingpool as a favour. I know I need specialist grout and adhesive but can I use normal ceramic tiles or do they need to be specialist too? Any other specialist info on tiling a swimmingpool which I would otherwise over look would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi,

If it's a large pool then you'll be seeing her for many weeks...

I dunno, it's better to ask at your tile shop. I should guess that you will require a non-porous tile, say porcelain or similar, with a vitreous glaze of course. I doubt whether the standard teracotta tile will do, even if glazed, as there's always some blemish that will let damp into the tile.

Out of interest what is the base for the pool? Concrete? Has it been tiled before? I'm curious because the liner in our pool is just about shot. I think that a new liner would be cheaper than attempting to fit a concrete shell and then tiling.

Rgds.

Thanks for your help.

the base is concrete and has been tiled before but from the looks of things back in the 50's.

although you said you are trying to impress a young lady, she wont be that impressed when it leaks.

I would aslo suggest that it is not as easy a job as you think, and as mentioned its going to take some time.

did you know you can get custom made liners that look like tiles, which will work out cheaper and easier
