Hi

I have gutted my bathroom and now tiling the walls. Does anyone know wether the tiles should sit behind the skirting board or wether they should sit on top of it? Also when tiling the toilet wall is it necessary to tile behind the toilet water cistern tank or can I tile around it? I really do not want to have to remove it.

Thanks

I can't remember the last time I left skirting in a bathroom - I tend to rip them out and tile down to the floor. If you're leaving them in place whether you tile down to them, or take them off depends on how deep the skirting is. If it's got a narrow profile so that tiles would lip over the edge then you've got to remove it and tile behind or it'll look pretty rubbish.

As to the toilet cistern it really should come off. That is perhaps easy for me to say as I do this sort of stuff all the time but it really won't look right if you just leave it in place and tile around it. It's quite easy to do with only a little plumbing experience...
