tiling edging

could someone tell me whether there is a neccesity to use plastic edging on wall tiles in a kitchen, or is it a personal choice?
the tiles are 8" square of a mosaic look.

Are you thinking where the bottom row of tiles meet to the top of the worktop ?

no, i mean at the top of the tiles and where they meet at external corners.

No! it isn't necessary to use plastic corners. In fact, I hate them.

Hmmm, showing the edge of the tiles is not nice either

You can always mitre the corners or if you use wide joint grout that can be "worked" into a bull nose, this looks a lot nicer on natural stone like the one here http://photobucket.com/albums/v156/jasonballamy/work/?action=view&current=PICT0011.jpg

What about a tidy bit of wood trim at the top edge - no plastic trim, no tile edge? Depends what else there is, but in my kitchen, the wood trim matches the T&G panelling and the timber worktop.

on this occasion i've opted for no trims at all, and its turned out pretty good. thats my opinion of course!
