Hi

I have a concreter floor that had vinyl tiles stuck to it.

I have removed these but there is the old adhesive left on the floor, it is not sticky and can not be felt .

Will it be safe to use tile adhesive straight on top or should i put a thin layer of self leveling compund?

Thanks
Wayne

Generally its best to apply a thin coat of latex screed scraped on with a trowel to neutralise the floor and provide a smooth, dry surface for the new tiles. If your laying new vinyl tiles then the serration marks in the old adhesive may show through the surface of the new tiles through time.
You would probably get away with laying on top of the old adhesive if its acrylic (usually white/yellowish colour)...but if its an asphalt adhesive (black in colour)then if you use a spirit based adhesive on top of this the spirits will soften the old asphalt and the results can be very messy.
