-Im no expert either but from what Ive seen in the 'right area' PVA is a big no no for this. i expect the answer will involve marine ply and bal tanking followed by bal adhesive and grout (i think bal is the name!?!) but as i say Im not an expert.
Use a type of waterproof building board made for this purpose - MASTERBOARD - can be cut drilled and worked like plasterboard, only it does not shrink, rot, or warp when wet etc, and is Part B fire compliant.
