Tiling onto white washed wall

Hi,
I'm in the middle of tiling a bathroom and one of the walls is whitewashed. Will the tile adhesive take to this ok? Using a powder adhesive.

Better to wipe/scrape it off as best you can first.

Ok, will have a go at that then.
Though I did experiment with a bit of adhesive last night and it seems to have stuck fast. But I'll scrape it a bit to roughen it up anyway.
