I'm having to remove old tiles and re-tile. Do you have to remove all the old tile adhesive before re-tiling or can you just use a bit more adhesive to flatten things out. Its just that its a huge room with lots of adhesive! Also, I can't just tile over the old tile as the old tiles were partly removed by the last owner.

Or maybe I should just get the whole thing plaster scimmed? But would I still need to get rid off the old tile adhesive?

Or maybe I should dry line?

Decisions, decisions.

Any advice appreciated.

The flatter the surface, the quicker and better the end result...

All depends on how hard and uneven the adhesive is.

Bonding coat plaster is the easiest to apply and will form a nice surface to work from. Tho 'universal one coat' will be more durable (just horrid and less forgiving).

And buy from a builders merchants, far better quality and cheaper.

If you dry line this may cause all sorts of headaches with skirting boards etc.

Good luck!
