I want to tile over existing quarry tiles in my entrance but the level needs to be raised to bring it reasonably level with the wooden floor in the rest of the house (about 22 mm higher than the existing entrance). I'm thinking on the lines of some kind of board ideally one that allows some kind of insulation so that the tiles will be a little less cold. Allowing for around 12 mm for the tile and the adhesive the board would have to be no more than 8 mm high. What would be the best board for the job or might there be a better solution e.g. 3mm Envoy Multi underlay stuck on the tiles, plywood fixed on top and then tiles on top of the ply?
Lastly, is it better to go for floor tiles with the number 4 on the back rather than 3 for example?
