Hi,
Looking for some advice on tiling my small vestibule area floor.
I’ve never tiled before, as you may gather from the rest of my post.
We live in an old tenement flat in Glasgow with the door leading to a common close, so the vestibule area is very small. Approx 1100 x 550.
I’d like to give it a bit of a freshen up with a skim on the walls and new tile on the floor.
Just a couple of questions: the area is not heated and so in the winter it’s around the same temperature as the close which isn’t far off the outside temperature. Based off that, should I be using an adhesive designed for external use?
We’ve also always had an issue with the storm doors catching on the current tile, and so they don’t open all the way. My plan was to either take the doors off and plane the bottom, or try to grind the concrete base down once the old tile is lifted. I’m not entirely sure what the slab will look like once the tile is lifted so not entirely sure what I’ll come across. Which would you suggest is the easier option? And if I’m to grind the concrete - should I wet it first? Obviously as I’ve said it leads to a common close to I’m hesitant about creating a lot of dust.
