Hi,

I am tiling a bathroom and this has a small window with a window ledge 80cm(W) x 25cm(D). I am using 25cm x 20 plain white tiles.

I set the spacing of the wall tiles on the wall behind the bath but this has resulted in the spacing below the window to be offset in relation to the window ledge - i.e if I follow the same spacing onto the ledge this would mean the ledge tiling would not be symmetrical across the width of the ledge.

Would you ignore the wall spacing and set the ledge tiles symmetrical (start at the centre and work outward) or follow the wall tile spacing ?

In circumstances like these, I recommend you do what you think looks best. There's not really any right or wrong - just what looks better. Just try to avoid thin strips of tiles.

As a rule, I normally set out a window wall by trying to frame the window equally. That is have pretty equal 'L'-shapes at each corner. This then means that the grout lines can be followed on the reveals and it looks symmetrical. If however, this layout would mean thin strips either at the top/botom or sides just move your start line over a bit to gain a reasonable cut tile at the edge.
I hope that this makes sense and is helpful

Thanks for the reply gcol.
I reckon it looks best with the ledge set out symmetrically so will go with that.
