Timber base below ground level

Excuse the quick drawing but i just wanted to know if its possible to have a timber base below ground level so that the floor of the log cabin is level with the garden like in the drawing.

Yes, but won't last forever.
If you could remove some of the ground around the edges and retain it with some blocks or slabs, that might help with airflow.

Put weed membrane and gravel beneath, with a gap. It will probably fill up with leaves and crap though, and also water if the soil is poor draining.

Edit: just noticed your dpm, the timber may well sweat inside the plastic.

For what you are proposing, a poured concrete slab (or even slabs on whacked sub base) would be much better, and might work out the same in material cost.
 
Dig a trench around the sides and rear of the base and fill with chippings to act as a soakaway and it might help. But it really depends on where your water table is.
