Hello all!

I have a timber fire door in my house which was installed just over two years ago. Could I expect that this door would shrink/expand to some degree over this time if the humidity in my house is at 42%?

Many thanks in advance for taking the time to read and answer my query.

Yeah, even though your humidity is relatively stable at 42%, a timber fire door can still experience some minor expansion and contraction over time. Wood is always going to react to moisture levels, but fire doors are usually built with engineered cores to limit movement.

After two years, any significant shrinking or swelling should have already settled. If you’re noticing gaps or tight spots, it could be from seasonal shifts or slight frame movement rather than the door itself. But at 42% humidity, you’re in a good range to minimize major changes.
