Hi All
Contemplating dividing up my shed into some half decent recreation/storage areas. The shed itself is a reasonable size (20' x 12') so i was thinking of putting up some stud and building a bike storage area (probably 8' x 8') and leaving the rest as a kind of gym/recreation/recording studio blah blah.

I was going to use rockwool to insulate and then some 3mm hardboard over that. This is the cheapest way i can find to insulate it. I was also thinking about building out a stud wall of 38mm x 63mm (i think thats 2 x 1 in old money). Would this be sufficient?

you need an air gap then breathable membrane then the insulation and i would suggest a minimum 6mm ply or 12mm you can hang what you like off it

The shed at the moment is tongue and groove on the outside which is exceptionally gappy already. Would it be possible to just slice up a breathable membrane and hang/staple between the joists and then put rockwool on top of that then 6mm boarding? 12mm is going to be a bit expensive, 6mm maybe beyond the budget at the mo. Might end up just studding the internal wall

yes that will be fine just make sure you have a gap between membrane and sides off ideally 1" but no less than 1/2"
the trouble you will have is supporting the rockwool because if you try and wedge it between membrane and inside you will push the membrane towards the wall

my suggestion would be to separate the layers to 2" thick then fold the top 1" over at right angles with several staples in the "V" into the top timber if you get my meaning

i would strongly suggest you save up and go for 12mm ply for any area you need to fix things to the wall other than switches and sockets
other choices are osb/sterling board but not as nice a finnish
