Timber shed vs metal shed

Hi Im thinking of putting a large shed in the back garden 10ft x 16ft

I cant make my mind up wether to put a timber shed up or a metal shed.

Anyone got experience of both regards quality, costs, etc

Its a rented property so would like to be able to take it with me at a later date if needed

You often see postings from people that have condensation problems in metal sheds.

In this instance metal would be my choice, as you can grease the nuts/bolts/screws on assembly, ready for when you wish to disassemble.

Id want to store dry goods in there ie plaster, cement etc so may be an issue with condensation . Also anybody know offhand what the maximum size I can go to and how close to a boundary line before I need planning?

Even with insulation, you'll get condensation in a metal shed. Your dry goods will get wet unless you store them in lidded plastic crates or equivalent.

right all looks ok with building control, i think im gonna go with timber just because of the condensation problems.

So my nest question will it be cheaper for me to buy one ready made or build one myself?

readymade are usually very flimsy. Self-build can be very much better, you can also incorporate felt or membrane inside the cladding, and insulation if you want, as well as proper sturdy doors.

I like the idea of self building but i imagine the cost would be a lot more

building your own is an expensive choice both material and time wise
but you get a much stronger more to your needs man place
mines cost me about twice as much but now is insulated with a wood burner so no competition

That's a cracking shed - I have shed envy! Some clever (at least to me!) ideas - the hinged doors in the apex (to store long items/timber?), the double width door at the front (easier access for big stuff and great for good weather) and the recycling crates on timber runners ( so you don't have to keep lifting them to get to the one at the bottom?). You've solved 3 of my annoyances with my ready-made shed - nice work!

during the winter months when the insulation is in place with the inner top doors in place you can fan out the timber so the door end is above the glass door and providing the timber is flat and not to many on the pile by raising the back end the front end will clear the top off the glass door

so during the cold months i let the stocks run down to make this easier but it can be rammed solid in the warmer months
