Hi,

First time post.

My kids TV room / play room is in the basement of our house, I've just realised (for the twentieth time) that they have left the lights on all night (8 X 50 w Halogen downlights).

Is there any easy & cosmetically acceptable way of sorting this ? Either a light switch with a built in PIR or a long delay (say 1hr) timer delay.

Any thoughts ?

Many thanks

Paul

Ouch that will be expensive - for both the electricity used and the timer.

I would consider replacing said downlights with a 20w CFL attached to a ceiling centred ceiling rose. Better light all around and cheaper when the brood forget to switch the lights off. ;)

Cost wise - forget to turn the downlights off 8 hrs * 400w @12p kwh = 40p
forget to turn CFL light off 8hrs *20w @12p kwh = 2p.
No brainer really.

We have PIR sensors in the office, pain in the neck when you are the only one in and sat reading something - lights keep going off! At least the kids don't have to feel around for the switch in the dark as they would with a push switch timer.

Simplest answer - some CFL downlight lamps, - 9W should do although my wife hates them.

Or a simple timer that turns the light off between say 11pm and 6am.

how about wiring a neon indicator in parallel with the lights and putting it somewhere obvious eg kitchen.

Or put the lights and the tv through a coin meter :p
