Tiny screws question

IP cam, who ever built it, did so with a screw which was too short, it attaches the moving head, to the shaft which rotates it. I just need a longer screw, but with the same thread.

Measuring the major diameter of the thread (across the tops of the threads) I get 1.8mm. This table, suggests it must be a 1.8mm thread

I bought a mixed set of glasses/watch screws, the largest of which was suggested to be a 2.5mm thread. Measuring the major diameter of these 2.5mm, I get 1.30mm, so too small, so how come they are described as 2.5mm?

I spent today, with the screw as a sample - trying a few watchmakers, jewellers, and computer repairers, trying to track down the screw I need, but so many send their items off for repair - so no luck there.

I'm willing to bet your screw size will be 2.0mm fine.

Your mixed set you purchased, is obviously mislabled.

Surely if you know the diameter and the pitch then you can work out what the thread is? Did the mixed screws not contain any 1.8's? Is 1.8 a readily available size?

No, the ones marked 2.5mm, were the largest thread, the rest were even smaller.

Is the screw, screwing through plastic or metal.

And is it a machine thread or self tapper type.

A tapped round metal shaft end, with two flats on it. The head which fits onto it has matching flats, is plastic, with a deeply recessed hole for the screw, which is a Philips, domed head machine screw..

Judging from micro screws on eBay, 1.8mm is not a usual size, all the listings Ive come across go from 1.6mm to 2.0mm

Thanks, but no - the threaded shaft, into which it needs to screw, is either steel, or possibly brass.

I just got this sorted. It turned out to be a M2 after all. The major width, larger diameter across the thread measured 1.8mm. The table I checked, suggested 1.8mm should have been a M1.8 thread, and 2mm a M2. I couldn't find a source, for a M1.8 anywhere, so I risked buying a single M2 x 10mm length alan screw. Intending to trim the length down to the shorter length which was needed.

The M2 fitted perfectly, and I didn't even need to risk messing the thread up, by cutting it down - the hole was tapped all the way through and out the other side of the drive shaft.

Gotter wonder which doppy sod thought to specify a M2 screw only catching into the drive shaft by a couple of threads..

It may be just me but before I throw away any electronics I dismantle it and save the screws - and any interesting bits that might be useful.
Bet I would of had one to fit in my little pot of tiny screws.

Spend a lifetime building up the "might come in handy", just for them to be thrown out.

Kids have all ready told me they will sell my tools when I pop off
