tips please

Unfortunately I am one of those people who (however much I try) always ends up with a messy paint tin, and some were around the area I am working will always find a circle from were my tin as been placed, what I ask is this.

Am I alone, does this happen to all, and most of all what is the best prevention for either keeping your tin clean.

decant the paint into a paint kettle - or a roller tray - or a bucket Tins are for storing the paint

Doesn't happen to me. Paint should go on the brush, not the tin

We are decorating my daughters house at present and my wife was glossing - noticed she was squeezing any excess paint out of the brush by dragging the brush horizontally over the rim, and in a different place every time. Told her to put less paint on the brush and if she needed to squeeze any out to do it vertically against the inside edge of the tin (and the the same place) - did it make a difference? After 30 years I should have know better! (Actually it's probably 29 years since she last held a brush - now I remember why ).

I am asking a little bit tongue in cheek, reson being I have started making (gorrila) type tubs out of recycled newspaper...what i am finding as a massive benefit to my decorating is that i place the open tin inside a tub and work from this, the tin is now bunded!! its working lovely espesially as the tin (5ltr) is not as high as my paper bund...really think these may be marketable as all my mates love the concept!!

Don't think you would find it selling to the pro maybe the DIY market.
Painters decant the paint into a kettle for many reasons.
Don't have to carry a whole tin of paint up and down a ladder,
If you happen to drop dirt into it then its only a small amount wasted,
Wider top so you don't get paint all over the brush and your hands.

Don't want to ruin your ideas just giving you reasons why we don't work straight from a tin.

No pro works out of a tin. Paint kettle is the way to go.
