Hi,

The old toilet sat on a concrete base (on a concrete floor). Its 29cm x 20cm at the widest points.

New toilets look much bigger at the base, not sure if a new toilet would fit nicely on this. Are they hollow? Can I get away with leaving it and slotting the new loo over the top of it?

Thanks

Thats a lump of (rather weak) mortar. Hammer and cold chisel at the base and the whole lump should part company with the floor.

Maybe that pedestal was put there to get the required fall.....?
I think a new pot would be a bit too high if it was left there - I'd shift it if I could.

Offer new pan into position, mark screwholes with a suitable scribe, then check for clearance prior to drilling. (Need brass screws for fixing!)

Are you able to connect to the existing waste, now that the 'plinth' has been removed? Often a huge stumbling block!
John :)
