I've recently had my bathroom refitted, and the upstairs toilet is now not flushing all the time. Is it a coincidence that the soil pipe (that originally vented out through the roof) has been cut in the bathroom with a Durgo valve fitted instead. This is also inside a cupboard that's part of the back wall "furniture". There is another toilet downstairs directly below joining the soil pipe, and the flush on this is as it was (old big cistern with a handle style!). So, will my flushing problem be down to a poor vacuum type of flush "button" (which I've never been a fan of) on the toilet furniture, or this new Durgo contraption?

So.... is it ok to have had the installation done like this? I'm in 2 minds whether or not this existing ventilated soil pipe should have been cut and "Durgo'd" in the cupboard next to the cistern.....

Thanks!

You can only use a durgo if your drains are being vented elsewhere on your property.

Suggest you reinstate the vent so that gases are expelled from your sewers and air is allowed in to prevent negative pressures. :D

I still can't find anything "official" about keeping a vented pipe, even in Building regs Part H.

But the flush problem is just a coincidence?

Phone your local Building Control Office who will clarify.

Its what they told me and what was taught at college. :D

Have you thought the valve may be stuck and not allowing air in.

Take the valve off and see if there is any difference to your flushing ;)

Can't get it off. Boxed the f*****g thing in with a worktop about 1" above it. I wish I'd read about these before they'd fitted it.

I'll have to give them a call on Monday......

the flushing is a co incidence ;) but if it`s newly done the installers should sort it ...........as for the gurdo ...I fitted one in a terraced house because it shared a manhole with the vent from the next house  and I didn`t tell Build Control  :p
