Daughter bought a 70s house where the downstairs loo waste goes out through the floor. Does this mean a close-coupled* loo is out of the question? Thanks.

* What are 'non close-coupled loos called?

Close coupled just means there's no pipe between the cistern and pan. Most are like that.
Exit in the floor means you may have a problem with the distance of the cistern from from the wall, so measure carefully. A pan connector like thas

may come to the rescue.
Non-close coupled pans can be called low-level.
Just about still available are S-trap pans where the visible pipe-out-the-back turns down

and according to this picture these are avalable, but I've never noticed one. I'd have though the chance of the set-out distance suiting you would be very small. I bet your Ole is near the wall so you'd need a P trap anyway.

you may find it cheaper elsewhere.

as mentioned above, check the distance, 205mm from all to pipe centre

my house also has a bottom outlet, but once i do the bathroom up, i'll see about changing it to rear outlet for more choice.
