Just been watching an old Tommy Walsh programme.

"Are these low voltage?" - "No, it's mains." :)

Not sure about the lamp construction. Is it correct?

I didn't know gu10s had transformers inside them.
Not according to wikipedia.
What would be the point? Heat as stated in the clip? Isn't 50W 50W?

Also - doesn't the 'not touching with fingers' only apply to the actual halogen bit and not the envelope?

It's all total tripe.

Where people who know a few random facts are far more dangerous than those who know nothing.

The bit about heat got me thinking. Turn's out that's utter rubbish too.

Both 50W, but one is aluminium, one is dichroic, so different hot spots.

I did eye ball it and yes as many TV shows not very well done to put it mildly. As to transforming the voltage I have never smashed open a GU10 lamp so don't know if simple element or not so will not comment on that.

But with a GU10 there is a glass envelope over the quartz envelope so no way can one put your fingers on the quartz.

I watched a repeat the other day of one of the builders from hell things and it was saying how to do the work the guy needed to be Part P registered which is now not correct but was at the time it was made and really these shows are just not good enough to ever repeat.

There are 2 good reasons for watching old shows that TW was in, but CD's not in the clip above.
