I've clad before, with rough sawn larch, a 16 gauge brad wouldn't go through it, but they were thick around 20/25mm also they are galvanised and will rust... you really need stainless steel nails to do the job properly.
You might be able to do it with porta nailer, (T&G flooring) but again the cleats are galvanised... they may rust over time, that said they are more robust than brad nailers.
I used waffle head stainless steel nails and had them visible.
Maybe lost head screws might suit you better, the heads are small and I think you can get stainless too.
I used these for my cedar cladding, after asking similar questions at the time, worked great. Looks the same as the tongue tites tho, so may just be a more expensive version of it
We have used the tongue tite screws on larch cladding with no problem.
Just finished a small job using thermowood used same screws again quick and easy.
Thanks both for the reply. Exedon, I'm planning vertical cladding- would the heads be any more visible that way? And (both) did you pre drill all the holes?
