Too Full to Jail

You need to read a bit deeper.

It’s mostly remand vs bail not walk free for crimes that have mandated prison sentences

Two many criminals. Criminals need other punishment other than jail

Prisoners are to be let out of jail up to six months before their release date, in a new early release scheme which will help to tackle prison overcrowding”

Similar cases to Bernie Eccelstone. Should be put on house arrest with no Internet or mobile phones at his cost.
That's a bed saved

Thats not the same policy

Something like 14,000 awaiting their day in court because the court system is collapsing in slow motion.

The wait for a trial is now something like 4 years at the moment.

Justice delayed is Justice denied.

Tory MO is cut services, keep cutting services, then as failures mount declare these services are not fit for purpose and privatise through contracting out and handing over public assets. As the cuts continue and the services continues to fail blame the judges and the blob and then increase the budget to pay for the army of consultants.

Public fall for it everytime.

Do you mean 4 years from the offence or 4 years from trial?

Magistrates is about a month and crown court is about 11 months. Charge to completion. There are time limits for people held on remand. You are also technically still on remand, if you have been convicted but not yet sentenced. I know there are a few on remand beyond the time limit. But this is not the avg.

Is it really? Apparently the median completion time was 196 days for Magistrates in 2021 and it has been deteriorating steadily.

At crown court the median is 398 days and rising.

So you're closer than I was.

That data is from the date the offence was reported. Note in many cases the delay is Plod. They have around 6 month to lay the information at the magistrates court. If you are going to be remanded then you will be before the magistrates within 3-4 days of being charged.

anyway..

back to original post.
Convicted rapists and burglars are not going free because the prisons are full. if they were due prison, they are going to prison. It's only those on bail who will have a delay. You only get bail, if you are not a flight, danger or security risk.

Yep, of course the mean time for a crown case is now around 700 days, and it takes 400 days to get the trial into the court system. Thats not plods fault, that's the court system.

Shush. Each time anyone points out Tory failings, MBK gets an electric shock. It prompts him into a full on bullshít Tory horn-smoke - Boris Johnson style.
The party of law and order, my arse.
