Toolstation often offer things (some of which are "clearance" products) at what appear to be ridiculously low prices. but they are nearly always 'out of stock' - although there are occasionally exceptions to that, so I have occasionally got some extreme bargains that way!

The pendant to weehich yoh ,inked is 'out of stock for delivery'.

Yep, I always find those great deals, look to buy it at my local shop, and find they only have a single item in their Outer Hebrides shop.

Wasn't out of stock when I linked it! My local T/S has one left and the crabtree ones are down to the same price

The five stores nearest to me are all listed as having ONE in stock.

Coincidence?

Almost enough to bait-and-switch the punters.

That's often the case with them (zero or one in stock in stores one looks at, and almost never any stock 'for delivery'). However, the last time I 'won' the store closest to me actually had two in stock, so I bought both (at about one quarter of what they should have cost).

you have to be really aware in general
the word "sale"means no more than its there to be bought "for sale" unless it says "genuine sale" where some items will genuinely be reduced but not nesiserally to the lowest value over the last year

some items in the toolstation sale this saw blade for example https://www.toolstation.com/dewalt-xr-flexvolt-mitre-saw-blade/p95304
at the sale price is an overpriced rip off who would pay £92 for a saw blade ??

As you go on to say, it does say £73.58 (previously £91.98)". If they can't prove that they have previously offered it for sale at that higher price, I think they would be on the wrong side of the law
who would pay £92 for a saw blade ??
Unfortunately, it's far from impossible, even for makes which areusually more more sensibly priced than De Walt. For example:

In any event, although I realise that it was a "Toostation Sale" item referred to in the OP, it's not those "sales" I have been talking about - rather, I've been referring to their sporadic 'dramatically low prices' (but rarely 'in stock') - such as ...

They used to have notices in store at times of sale stating they`d been on sale for higher price for 28 days at one branch etc etc or as I refered to them as "FAKE SALE Notices " and exclaimed "this was the price at their Timbuctoo branch!" .

Most so called sales are what we the public would calls fakes (Perhaps not actually a lie but a different version of the truth) LOL

Yes, that is a very common practice with sales in general and I presume is an attempt to just scrape them onto the right side of the law.

However, as I've said, that's not what I have been talking about. I was talking about something which seems specific to Toolstation - with them sporadically offering things for sale at a fraction of the the price which they undeniably have 'always' charged at all of their branches - the 'catch' being that these items are rarely 'in stock'.

Kind Regards, John

Yes quite - I stand corrected, probably more of a ploy to actually get you to buy something else not the sale items themselves, retailing by the big firms can be a very scientific logical approach

I can but presume that something like that is the thinking behind the practice I described but I have to say that it tends to have the reverse effect on me personally - just 'annoying' me!

As for the attempts to "just scrape them onto the right side of the law" with 'sales', I don't really understand how the law works, or is meant to work ....

... there is a promotional video (for mattresses) which has been broadcast at least once (often many times) every day on many Sky channels, for at least several months (quite possibly more). Every day (including Mondays!) it offers a "20% discount" but qualifies that with "... but this offer must end on Monday".

Is that actually within the law, I wonder?

Kind Regards, John

Toolstation charge the same price at each branch. When reducing the price and declaring it as a discounted price, they are obliged to show that the price was higher within the last 28(?) days. Large companies would be unlikely to knowingly lie in such a way.

Well yes it is within the law and the sale does end on Monday at 23:59:59

However a completely new and totally unrelated sale starts on Tuesday 00:00:00 by another company within the group. By absolute coincidence it's a 20% matress discount.
