Hi guys, just a question.

If you have run out of top hat washers to fix a tap to bath or wash basin, can you just use a rubber washer and a polywasher underneath or would you experience any problems?

Thanks 4 the advice.

It depends.

The function of a top hat washer is to bridge the gap (when there is one) between the tap shank and the hold it's poking through.

Desk mixer shanks are often not at the same centres as the bath holes, so the gap is eccentric.

Flexible washers, such as rubber or poly' washers, don't cut the mustard when the gap is too big - they will fold into the gap.
