what are those rubber tube things used for that they lay tensioned across roads? Theres usually 2 of them about 2 feet apart, connected to a little box chained to a streetlight. What do they use these for?

On a road near my house, they have put 2 sets of these out, about 150m apart. Never seen them use 2 sets before.

I have been told that they monitor traffic volume????

Yeah, I am sure that's what they're for too.

Means you might get some traffic lights or roundabout or something near your house if the volume of traffic is high

PS But worth checking that it isn't a neighbour nicking your electric

With the right electronics they can be used to measure speed.

Correct, we has one just outside of our road padlock to the telegraph pole :) as it check the average speed over 7 days to justify if there's a need for speed camera around the school area and so on. Thermo will be along in a minute

We live in a cul-de-sac on the edge of a quiet road that leads to a dead end and have had these across the main bit of road for well over a year now. Still no speed ramps or anything but been a few bumps there.

I wish they would put speed ramps or something as there really is no way anyone can safely drive over 20mph along there anyway.

hmm the road in question is a long stretch, maybe 500 yards long. I myself am guilty of doing 30-40 along this road, the limit is 30. Further along, the road goes all windy and twisty through an estate of houses built in the early 90's, where it is hard to do more than 20mph safely.

newlands drive - the road in question

I always wished i lived on a cul-de-sac. Less traffic, i could sleep with my window open in summer! :)

they are safe transport ways for ants one for getting there and one for the way back.
