Hi
I have a Laura Ashley light chandelier fitting that suddenly stopped working. I’ve checked that the fees into it is ok and have re-wired a standard pendent fitting in its place as a temporary stop gap until I manage to fix or replace the chandelier.

I think the reason why the chandelier isn’t working must be that the transformer has gone on it so I purchased a replacement. I can work out the mains power arrangements but can’t work out which wire is which from the cables going from the transformer to the lamp. There doesn’t seem to be any markings on the original or replacement transformer that makes it clear which should be which.

I’ve included some photos - the brown is the original transformer and the white the new one.

Also the original says 1.0 next the the feed from the transformer to the light whereas the new one says 1.5. I bought the transformer they said was a straight replacement. Is this an issue?

I’d be really grateful for any advice! Thanks in advance!

Yes there are:

That won't be.

The 230V side might be - the terminals are for 0.75mm² conductors, if yours are 1.5mm² it might be a tight fit.

Is the light on a dimmer? I can't see anything on the new supply to say it's dimmable.

Thanks all.

I’ve seen the markings which say which is the mains and which is the output to the light. My main question is in the output to the light there doesn’t seem to be anything distinguishing the two or saying which wire should go in which connection. Does it matter? I think from what EFLI says it doesn’t matter and I could put these wires either way round but would be good to have that confirmed.
Thanks again
Pete

So I’ve changed the transformer and still no joy. Any ideas on what could be wrong with it? Don’t understand how a five bulb light can all stop working at the same time if it’s not the bulbs, the feed or the transformer... any suggestions? Thanks!

Measure the voltage across the mains input to the transformer, when the light is supposed to be switched on

I think it is safe to assume that the pendant light is working, i.e. the switch is fine, and so is the supply cable:
have re-wired a standard pendent fitting in its place as a temporary stop gap until I manage to fix or replace the chandelier.

Another fairly unlikely possibility is that one of the lamps has failed short circuit, which on better designs of transformer will just result in the output being switched off.
