Trap connection problem

I have a crome bath waste and have been trying to connect a 40mm hepvo waste trap to it but it's way to big. Tried a 32m which could not go on.

I measure the crome end and it's 35mm.

How do I get a trap to connect to this secure ?

Anyone know best way to get from 35mm crome to 40mm plastic

Just tried a 32mm compression on one end and 40mm on other and either side will go on 35mm crome.

I have seen a crome to 32mm connector online but not crome to 40mm.

Is this the same as the other post? Bit confusing. Strange a chromed brass bath trap being 35mm, that's usually the basin waste pipe size.
