Hi.
I'm thinking of doing some flat alterations and was wondering if someone who knows building regulations could advise me. Would I be allowed to remove an interior door that leads down some stairs to a backdoor (it's an upstairs flat with garden) and replace it with a trapdoor style door so that the space above the stairway can be walked on? Or would this possibly breach fire exit regulations (because it could possibly get stuff left on top of the trapdoor blocking emergency access)?
Presumably a flat that size (small two bed) needn't even have a backdoor but since it has one would it count as a fire exit that would have to be retained and if so would my plan be deemed to obstruct it?
Many thanks.
