I used some gel I got from this outfit http://www.d-sankey.co.uk/index.htm and I haven't seen the blighters this year.
I can't seem to find the product on their website so it might be as well to call them.
I still wouldnt be wanting to use these toxic chemicals where you don't need to. Paint would do, all you need is to make it not look or smell like wood.
The affected timber was the joists under my loo - what harm is it gonna do there . And who said it was toxic - just looked at the tub of stuff I got. The web address on the tub is http://www.wood-protection.co.uk/acswoodworm.htm
If it was a lindane type product, it would be a potential problem where ever you put it. That last link is really handy, thanks for that, I've learnt something useful. I have used borax for fungal treatment, but I didn't know about the borates and woodworm.
