Trimming this down

I wanted to tidy up this damp proof as it’s sticking out a bit, was just going to trim it down with a knife, is there any reasons why I can’t do that?

I would advise you to use a very sharp knife, something like a bendy kitchen knife which you can push flat against the bricks above and below. It can get a bit messy looking if bits start breaking off or your cut line gets a bit wobbly.
