Hello

I have a quick question that I am hoping somebody can help with. We are putting together a flat roof. On the exterior corner of the extension it is going on, there is a 150x150 timber post. Off of this are two triple joists, each 150x150, at right angles (from above, forming an 'L' shape with the timber post in the corner). The will butt against the timber post, not sit on top of it. Given that the depth of the post is the same as the width of the triple-joist, I can't see that hangers can be used. I was just wondering what the best way would be to fix the two triple-joists to the timber post.

Thanks in advance for any comments!

Cut the post, bear one beam on to it and than hang the other off the beam with a hanger?

Otherwise why can't you use two hangers?

Thanks for the quick reply.

The problem I can see is what I fix the joist hangers to given that the post is 150x150 and the triple-joist is 150x150. All of the joist hangers I've seen need space either side of the joist to fix the hanger.

I like the idea of bearing one of the joists on the post and then using one hanger for the remaining joist. However, I still think there is a problem because one side of this joist hanger cannot be affixed to anything.

Also, if there is a solution using hangers, I can't seem to find any that will take a 150x150 joist.

Speedy (ie thin metal) hangers can be bent around the post, and the thicker ons can too with more effort

Or check out some of these - including concealed face fix, adjustable width and concealed beam hnager www.strongtie.co.uk/products/family_timbersolid.php

But cutting the post and using one hanger is the easiest thing to do
