Hi all - just trying to figure out what size trowel I need for fixing natural quartzite splitface tiles to cement board externally.
Im guessing 10 or 12mm but wanted to check before I buy. They are fairly think (20mm) in places and thinner elsewhere

I know they have to be back buttered but not sure on the trowel for cement based SP2 adhesive

Oh its a wall too

Thanks

If on to cement board, I’d go with a 10mil. The hard part is the timing that the adhesive mix has had before back buttering. Put the first couple on in a ‘ discrete’ place where you can check how much ( if any) adhesive comes through the joins in the ‘ fingers’ in the split face. Maybe keep something similar to a Spatula handy, for puting the smallest of extra dots of adhesive on the very thin ‘fingers’ ; from experience some could be as thin as 5 mil !

Ive bought a 10 and 12mm. Will start with the 10mm to see how it covers. Yeh will see how it goes with the stuff comming through the gaps.....could be very messy. Hope not, may have to leave adesive go off a touch not sure like......what sort of gap do you leave between the tiles....1 or 2mm?
