I am building an extention and arranged for a local truss manufacturer to come and measure my existing roof for trusses to match the existing.

They measured the roof at 7.1 width and 2184 high when I measured the roof it is in fact 7.08 wide and 2150 high, resulting in a significant difference in the existing and new trusses.

The manufacturer is telling me I should add firings to take up the slack and any decent carpenter would have done this?? I am quite a competent self builder and I think I should actually get trusses the right size or am I being unreasonable?

the manufacturer has already offered to reimburse me the labour charges from my builder and the crane hire for the aborted work.

Is 20mm and 34mm really a significant amount?

Would this be noticable when the tiles are on?

Strictly, it would be assumed that the trusses are measured and made to your requirements. However, there could well be several reasons why slight discrepancies in the measurements may occur, and it may not be anyones fault.

You either have to decide whether you want some protracted leagal dispute, or want to get the roof on as soon as possible - and negotiate accordingly.

It seems that the refund from the suppliers would cover the time it takes to pack the trusses up.
