TRV boolean on / off or gradual shutdown

I have very little experience of radiator TRVs but am hoping to roll them out in my house - looking at the danfoss ras-d2 (mainly 'cos it pretty and has a high maximum setting)

Question - do they gradually shut down as they approach desired temperature or is it more of an on / off scenario?

Some are filled with wax, some with liquid.
As the room temperature increases the wax expands gradually shutting off the flow, then as the wax retracts the pin lifts and allows the flow through again till the room reaches temperature again.

The ras-d2 may have a 28C maximum, but you will have to size the radiators and boiler correctly if you want to heat the house to that excessive temperature.

Balancing the system is essential if you want your TRVs to work correctly.

The idea is that a TRV will open/close gradually and stay in a proportional position to give exactly the flow required.

In a real room with opening doors etc. that may not happen so perfectly.

Balancing the rads properly will help them to achieve that control easier.

When over half of plumbers don't even think you need to balance TRVs that is not very helpful.

What is it about you Tony? (Agile) why do you feel the need to belittle other tradesmen in every post ? You are hardly any kind of ambassador for gas engineers even though you think you are

28 degrees - OH would love that

Recently changed my pump and the crude balancing already in place needs re-doing. would have needed it with new valves and shields anyway but thanks for the advice.

Seem to have agreement on the gradual shut down so thanks to helpful contributors
