TRV on all rads with a Roomstat aswell

Hi all,

I am going to put my Honeywell CMT927 in tonight.

I have been reading around to try and understand stats/TRV etc a bit more and have a question.

it appears it is not wise to have TRV on every rad in the house?
I have.

I am going to put my roomstat in the lounge.
I have 2 rads in there both with TRV fitted!

This isnt recommended???

Do i need to loose both TRV on those rads or will opening them up full or turn them off completely suffice?

Its wise to take a TRV off 1 of the rads somewhere yes?

Firstly it depends on which boiler and what system whether you can have trvs on all rads .
But if you are going to put your stat in the lounge just take the head off one of the trvs

I suppose it depends how big the radiators are. If both radiators together warm the lounge faster than other radiators warm the rest of the house, turning them both to max or removing the heads might make the rest of the house too cold. The room with the thermostat should be designed to heat up slower than the rest of the house.

1600 and 600 (x 600) Living room is 20 x 12 foot.

Living room dows get the warmest of all rooms downstairs quickest i believe at the mo.

Just suck it and see. Try with one or other radiator TRV set to turn off before the room thermostat and the other TRV set to max (or head removed). Alternatively, reconsider and put the room thermostat in the hall.

How do i set a TRV to turn off before the room stat?

My Hall is freezing even with a radiator in it! It never gets above 16 degs even with the Rad on!

Trial and error might get you there.

ok so please help me to understand why i cannot just shut both trv off and let the room stat control the 2 rads in living room and then the trv do therest of the rads in the house?

please dont be offended to teach a noob how to suck eggs!!

The boiler stat will shut the boiler down but it is then cycling which isn't particularly efficient

The problem with trv's is that most people don't set them properly, turn the ones down that get the hottest quickest to balance the system, if you are not going to have a trv free radiator you should have a bypass, normally the bathroom rad is left without a trv

ok im confused.

Should i take a TRV off 1 of the rads at least then?

And what will be best to do with the 2 rads in the living room that have TRV's that will have the room stat in?

I have
2 rads in lounge - both TRV set to 3
1 rad in kitchen - TRV set to 2
1 rad in Utility Room - TRV set to 3
1 rad in Hall - TRV 3

1 rad bathroom - TRV 2
Rad in each of the 3 beds - TRV 1

The heat in the lounge gets to about 22 degs.

Buy my boiler never shuts off and i am faced with £100 gas bill for the MONTH just to have the heating on 7-8am and 430-930pm.

Im trying everything and anything to get this bill down.

Will balance all the rads this weekend

Loft insulated well, walls not so - but cavity being done 1st week in Jan.

The purpose of a TRV is not to balance the system; this is the job of the lockshield valve.

TRVs are set to provide the required room temperature.
