Trying to change washer in kitchen tap

Hi there,

I need a bit of help - sorry, this is a simple question I think! The washer in my kitchen tap needs replacing (the spout rather than the taps themselves). I want to unscrew the central spout, but in order to do that need to turn the water off to the tap.

First photo shows the tap / spout.
Second photos shows the plumbing. I have two fixings (see photo 3 for one of them) where I'm assuming I need to put a flathead screwdriver and turn the fixing left to switch the water off (one for the hot water and one for the cold water).

Is that right?

Either left, or right - so the slot is across the pipe/valve. But, you do not even need to turn it off, to replace the seal on the spout. There is only water in the spout when a tap is turned on.

As suggested, to change the O rings at the base of the spout the water does not need to be off, just make sure the taps are off.

If you know who the tap is made by, they may be willing to send an new o-ring for free. I have a set of about 30 different o-rings, I often find that they are not the correct size when I need an o-ring.

Sometimes with spout o-rings, all they need is gently taken off, the channel and o-rings given a good clean and then some new silicone grease. Done that to my Franke tap, when it starts to get wet around the base, twice now and that's enough to revive the O rings for another couple of years.
